CEIAS Diversity Strategic Plan

Over the past year the CEIAS diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ) committee has been preparing a diversity strategic plan (DSP) for the college which reflects the spirit and intention of the overall NAU diversity strategic plan but has been made specific to CEIAS. The goal of this work is to: 1) outline achievable pathways to both understand where we are and how we can continue to grow a more diverse and inclusive environment; 2) establish clear mechanisms for communication of DEIJ resources and events; and 3) begin the process of recognizing CEIAS efforts through inclusion in the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Diversity Recognition Program (ADRP) in order to be listed among notable peer institutions. In order to achieve these goals, the following Objectives have been put forward for CEIAS to begin developing in the coming years.

  1. Increase visability of current NAU & CEIAS diversity resources and initiatives
  2. Develop performance metrics for future improvement of CEIAS DEIJ initiatives
  3. Improving recruitment, retention, & success of CEIAS Students, staff, and faculty

In order to provide for greater continuity between the overall NAU and CIEAS DPS we have maintained the same format, but have created a roadmap to outline the specific goals for CEIAS which pertain to [college, department, and individual] stakeholders. Furthermore, as some DSP initiatives can be quite broad and expansive, we have highlighted in the DSP [e.g. 1. a. ii.] which overall objectives and actionable items they pertain to in the roadmap.

Through this process, we will be soliciting comments and feedback on the CEIAS DSP and are encouraging any questions or concerns from individual stakeholders. Of specific interest to CEIAS departments are: 1) the inclusion of diversity-centered work, professional development, service, and research/scholarship in all employee expectation documents, appraisals, and evaluations; 2) expanding faculty and staff mentoring initiatives; 3) contributing to the overall collection of data and metrics for review of DEIJ initiatives. This is an ongoing process, so please feel free to provide feedback and comment on the current goals and expected outcomes for the coming year.
