CCS 250 (5248): Cultural Perspectives Islam & Popular Culture Dr. Diana Coleman Spring 2020 T/Th 11:10-12:25 Riles Building Room # 203 Course Prerequisite: ENG 105 This course will examine the topic of Islam and popular culture through a comparative approach using examples from different geographies including Muslim majority communities in North Africa, the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia, and minority experiences within the United States and Europe. We will draw variously on fiction, graphic novels, comic books, films, music, dance, fashion, and visual art to see how Islam presents and is represented in different time periods and regions of the world.
