Intramural sports

Experience the thrill of all of our different sports. From basketball and soccer to volleyball, softball, and flag football intramural sports offer a wide range of competitive and recreational opportunities for NAU students, faculty/staff, and alumni. Whether you’re looking to join a team or participate in individual sports, we’ve got you covered. And don’t worry if you’re new to a sport—we welcome beginners too.

How to get involved

Intramural sports are open to all NAU students, faculty, staff, and alumni! It’s easy—just follow these steps:

  1. Visit IMLeagues.
  2. Click “Create account” in the top right corner.
  3. Select Northern Arizona University from the dropdown menu.
  4. Fill out the information using your NAU email address and click “Create account” at the bottom. If you already have an account, simply log in.
  5. Choose the sport you want to play during the open registration period.
  6. Select the day of the week you prefer to play and decide whether you want to create a team or join as a free agent.
  7. Fill in the required information to complete the process.

In an effort to maintain a level of playing field, there are some restrictions for these groups:

  • Sport Club Athletes: 2 club players are limited to a team for the same sport.
  • Varsity Athletes: athletes are only allowed to participate in the offseason of their sport. Athletes must take a gap year to be eligible to play in their sport as well. This applies to all scholarship players, walk-ons, and squad members.
  • Professional Athletes: athletes need two full calendar years to have passed since they have been released or retired.

Guest pass holders cannot participate in Intramural Activities.

Payment and rates

Payments

Intramural sports play passes are required to participate in any of our intramural sports leagues, tournaments, or events. Play passes will not be prorated, are non-refundable, and non-transferable.

There are various play passes available for purchase through IMLeagues. After paying for your play pass, when prompted, click the button “Use package to pay.”

Current play pass rates

  • $30 4 League play pass – gives you access to all intramural sports leagues, tournaments, and events occurring for the semester. 4 Team limit for paid sports. 
  • $50 unlimited play pass – gives you access to all intramural sports leagues, tournaments, and events occurring during the for the semester.
  • Passes expire at the end of each semester.

Team captains and participants

Team captains are responsible for:

  • reading the intramural sports handbook
  • encouraging all participants and team members to become familiar with the intramural sports handbook
  • registering teams before the deadline
  • keeping team members up to date with intramural sports schedules, events, and changes
  • verifying the eligibility of the players on their team and the eligibility of players on opponents’ teams
  • attending the captain’s meeting webinar in IMLeagues
  • meeting all responsibilities outlined in the intramural sports handbook

Teams will be responsible for:

  • meeting roster requirements before the registration deadline; teams will not be scheduled without a verified roster
  • ensuring participants have an IMLeagues profile and purchased a play pass through IMLeagues
  • checking in with an intramural sports supervisor before playing in their contest; a government-issued photo ID (JacksCard) must be presented for each game/contest (individuals not listed on a roster must show verification of registration before they can participate)
  • wearing similarly colored uniforms with a permanent number (numbers drawn on with a marker are accepted)
