Black Culture Focused Housing

Explore traditional and contemporary aspects of Black intellectual, social, and cultural life

Black Culture Focused Housing will open Fall 2025 in one wing of the Mountain View Campus Living Community (CLC).

What is Black Culture Focused Housing?

Black Culture Focused Housing aims to foster a strong sense of belonging and connection through living and learningBlack student convocation together while exploring traditional and contemporary aspects of Black intellectual, social, and cultural life.

Black Culture Focused Housing includes the following:

  • Social connections with others who identify as and/or are interested in learning more about Black culture, heritage, and lived experiences
  • Network of Black-identifying participants, staff, alumni, and peer support providing learning opportunities, personal and professional development, and mentorship
  • Dynamic programming in the living environment such as:
      • Cultural dinners
      • Guest speakers on history, culture, politics, and current lived experiences of Black populations
      • Social and cultural events, including visual and performing arts, music, and dances
      • Hair styling partnerships with the Black Student Union
      • Educational programming onsite and through field trips
      • Leadership development opportunities
      • Academic support and study groups
      • Career path and graduate school exploration/preparation
  • 3-4 signature events per academic year planned with community member input
  • Community gathering room in the wing

Collaborative effort

Parris Adams, BJ Piper, and the BSU executive team demonstrated courageous leadership and a strong commitment to amplifying student voices after a traumatic community experience. Their advocacy inspired the creation of this community. The following campus partners collaborated to build and support this holistic community and continue to remain key collaborators:

Apply now! 

  • Log into the housing portal and select the Academic Year 2025-2026 housing application.
  • Black Culture Focused Housing will be an option listed on the “Tell us your focused housing interest” page. Those who express interest will be prompted to respond to two questions.
  • The 2025-2026 Academic Year review process will happen on a continual basis.
  • You will receive a confirmation email once accepted into the community, including additional details about roommates and room selection.
  • Note: room assignments will occur on a rolling basis based on application date and space availability.
