CAMINOS
Establishing supportive STEM environments is key for students to form a strong sense of belonging and STEM identity, and to increase representation, student success, and graduation rates. This program refines and increases access to scholarly STEM experiences and improved career competencies and academic success for students at NAU.
Objectives
- Increase awareness of and preparation for scholarly STEM experiences through CAMINOS Preparation, a training program for lower division STEM and education students
- Increase science communication skills and belonging through CAMINOS Scholars, a paid science communication internship program for upper division STEM and education students who will promote the broader impacts of NAU research with the local K-8 community,
- Increase mentoring skills through CAMINOS Mentors, a training module focused on NAU’s specific context, augmenting existing mentor training
- Generate new knowledge by investigating the integration of STEM and students’ identities during STEM experiences
