NAU’s School of Art announced plans to launch a new visiting lecture series for the 2020-21 school year.
The series will bring in prominent names from outside the university to help students and members of the public round out their art education.
Jaewook Lee, Assistant Professor of New Media Art, is heading up the effort, which he said will have online and in-person offerings.
“Visiting lecturers help prepare NAU art students for the next steps in their careers,” he said.
The new series will bring studio visits, workshops, informal conversations, and virtual presentations to the School of Art, an area that Prof. Lee said has been missing from the NAU student experience in recent years.
“It will offer them fresh perspectives by looking at various types of artistic practices and how these practices affect our society in a positive way,” he said.
Guest lecturers will come from a variety of backgrounds, teach on numerous topics, and bring diverse perspectives to the lecture series.
Prof. Lee said the number of lectures will depend on if the series reaches its $5,000 fundraising goal. Money raised will help cover the costs of the series such as travel costs for artists who give their lectures in-person.
The program has a crowdfunding campaign available here: https://crowdfund.nau.edu/project/21185
More details will be announced after the fundraising campaign ends August 1.
