Dr. Kim Hensley Owens is Director of Composition and Associate Professor of English at Northern Arizona University. Her book, Writing Childbirth: Women’s Rhetorical Agency in Labor and Online, was published in August 2015 as part of the Rhetorics and Feminisms series at Southern Illinois University Press. Her other published work includes articles in Computers and Composition, Written Composition, Composition Studies, Enculturation, Rhetoric Review, JAC, Pedagogy, and chapters in edited collections: The Writing Major: 18 Profiles; Joy, Interrupted; and Textual Mothers/Maternal Texts. Before coming to NAU in 2015, Dr. Hensley Owens was Associate Professor in the Writing and Rhetoric Department at the University of Rhode Island. Dr. Hensley Owens earned her MA and PhD in English (both with a concentration in Writing Studies) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She earned her BA in English and Spanish Education at the University of Arizona. Originally from Tucson, she taught middle and high school English in Tucson and Phoenix before going to graduate school. After 14 years away from the west, Dr. Hensley Owens is delighted to be back in Arizona. She lives in Flagstaff with her husband, two kids, and three cats, and is loving all the hiking Flagstaff has to offer.
