Certificate in Innovative Thinking and Problem Solving
COVID-19 has reminded us all that now, more than ever, the world needs and highly values people who can think critically and act in creative, innovative ways. Employers are not simply looking to fill jobs–they’re searching for employees who can adapt, think critically, and solve problems in an increasingly complex world.
This NAU certificate program enhances your NAU experience by teaching you how to identify needs, come up with many good solutions, and articulate and advance your ideas. Ultimately, this class gives you core skills that will support your aspirations and help you build a thriving career and life.
- ITG 408: Fieldwork and/or Internship
- ITG 208: Experiential Education Experience
- Interdisciplinary electives: students may take these or suggest new and innovative courses to take for elective credit.
Students can complete the certificate by taking 15 units, and may take up to 21 units, if they wish.
The assignments in this course all lead to products that will be of value in getting the startup moving, and that students can take away with them. These include an analysis of startup and ongoing business costs, a basic business plan, an identification of the target market and competitive space, a distribution strategy, a marketing sample, and an operations graphic. All of these culminate in your final project presentation–a 5-minute PowerPoint pitch aimed at potential investors. If you would like to learn more, navigate to NAU.edu/online/shirtsleeve-startup.
