Zúñiga is best known for his sculptures and public artworks. Most of his works focus on working-class women, often those who would work in marketplaces. He was inspired by pre-Hispanic art, especially in his sculptures of human maternal figures. In his later years, Zúñiga had severely limited vision as a result of illness. This visual disability impacted the media he chose in order to continue making art.
The first image is of the artwork titled “Mujer Desnuda Con las Manos en la Nuca”. This bronze cast sculpture is of a woman leaning heavily on one leg with her hands clasped together behind her head.
The second image is of the “Madre e Hija Sentadas.” This piece is also cast bronze. This sculpture is emblematic of the maternal themes consistent in Zúñiga’s works as it depicts a woman leaning against the shoulder of a visibly older woman.
