Kaya Dean
These distorted figurative ceramic sculptures of young girls address themes of discomfort under the male gaze, and the performative and dehumanizing nature of womanhood (that) often encroaches on girlhood, and disrupts childhood. This dehumanization is represented through the physical distortion of the body, and introduction of animal features. The gaze of these pieces is intended to unsettle in a manner that parallels the unrest that misogyny affected people often experience throughout their lives.
