College of Engineering, Informatics, and Applied Sciences
College of the Environment, Forestry, and Natural Sciences
When Tim Kinney left NAU in 1982 for New York City with an engineering technology degree, he promised himself that he would return. In 1995—after founding, growing, and then selling a successful contracting business in Manhattan—he kept his promise and moved back to Flagstaff. In 1999 he opened the doors of his new business, Kinney Construction Services, Inc. Since then, Kinney has been an integral part of the fabric of the Flagstaff and NAU communities. His company’s projects include work for institutional, healthcare, retail, industrial, hospitality, merchandising, financial, and real estate development sectors. Kinney was one of the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professionals in the region, and Kinney Construction served as general contractor for several LEED-certified buildings on the NAU campus. Kinney serves as the board chair of the Northern Arizona branch of the US Green Building Council and as a board member for the state chapter. He also serves on the board of directors of the Northern Arizona Leadership Alliance and the NAU Foundation. He established the Kinney Construction Services Award at NAU to provide funding for construction management, civil engineering, or environmental engineering majors.
