Stacey Brechler-Knaggs ’83
Dwight Patterson Alumnus/Alumna of the Year
During the last 34 years, Stacey Brechler-Knaggs has been responsible for bringing more than $300 million in grants to the City of Flagstaff. As the Contracts and Grants Manager for the city, she has provided for significant improvements to Flagstaff’s Pulliam Airport, construction of the Business Incubator, and Accelerator facilities at Northern Arizona Center for Entrepreneurship, new vehicles for the Flagstaff Police Department, and equipment for the Flagstaff Fire Department. “Stacey’s hard work and loyalty to our organization has taken dreams to a reality, created jobs for our community, added needed infrastructure, and been the remedy to fix what’s been broken that others would have left untouched,” wrote Heidi Hansen, who nominated Brechler-Knaggs for the award.
In addition to serving as an expert in her field and a mentor to others in the industry, Brechler-Knaggs is also heavily involved in the community. She sits on the board of United Way of Northern Arizona where she helps with annual fundraising. She also leads the annual American Cancer Society fundraising campaign for the city. The 1983 NAU graduate also regularly participates in NAU events and Alumni Association activities.
“Stacey has truly made the city better. We walk safely on our streets, shop, dine, reside, and much more thanks to the work that she has performed to elevate these programs for our community. Stacey is a bright example of the next chapter for new alumni. She is someone who received a great education and has put it to great use,” Hansen wrote.
