James Jayne, ’91 B.A. (International Affairs), is the County Manager for Coconino County. He works with a variety of elected officials and Board of Supervisors to help them carry out the mission and vision for the beloved Coconino County. James has dedicated his career to public service and has developed a County-wide Transformational Leadership philosophy. He served as the Navajo County Manager from 2003-2017 and has worked as the Chief of Staff of the Arizona House of Representatives, in the US Congress, the Arizona Water Banking Authority and the Arizona Corporate Commission. James serves on the International City/County Management Association Executive Board and several other national and state professional organizations. James was inducted into NAU’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Hall of Fame in 2017. He has been awarded the John J. DeBolske Award—the highest achievement for the public management profession in Arizona. James has also received the Gabe Zimmerman Public Service Award for Innovation—a statewide award for non-elected public servants. James earned his BA in International Affairs from NAU, and his Master’s in Public Administration from Arizona State University. James resides in Flagstaff, Arizona with his wife, Lisa.
