Dr. Prothero has published a book through Winged Lion Press, titled Sunbeams and Bottles: The Thought, Theology, and Reading of C.C. Lewis. The book explores how Lewis avoided political categories, as well as how his reading shaped his world view. He is a retired high school teacher in Orange County, California and teaches English part-time at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, California. Dr. Prothero graduated from Northern Arizona University with a BA in English in 1979.
After many years working in gold exploration, Hallinan moved on to software delivery in engineering. After 19 years working with a major defense company, he officially retired at 60 years old. Hallinan graduated from Northern Arizona University with a BS in Geology in 1986 and is a member of the Denver Alumni Chapter. Go Lumberjacks!
Nicole met her husband and NAU alumnus, Andy Johnson, ’94 in a chemistry class at Northern Arizona University. They are now celebrating 30 years of marriage in June 2023. Her husband, Andy, owns a successful consulting business, Milestone Consulting, and Nicole works as the accountant for the company. Nicole graduated from NAU with her BSACC in Accountancy in 1994.
Stallcup’s latest book, The Doom Loop, chronicles twenty years of education reform experience and what he has learned during the journey. Both him and his partner brought an effective, well-researched early elementary Spanish language math program (APREMET) employed in several Latin American countries to America in the early 2000s. At that time, over three million Latin American students used the APREMAT program. Stallcup graduated from Northern Arizona University in 1973 with his BS in Psychology.
Carol Ann Goodson passed away on January 31, 2023. She was born in Denver, CO and attended Denver South High School, where she developed an interest and talent in music, which ended up being a lifetime passion and profession. Goodson graduated from Brigham Young University where she studied education. After moving to Arizona, she taught for several years in the Mesa Arizona public schools. She earned a master’s degree in Music from Northern Arizona University in 1989 and a doctorate in music education from the University of Utah.
After moving from Arizona to Utah she worked as the Fine Arts Education Specialist for the Utah Department of Education and traveled throughout the state to facilitate art education including music, dance, and art. She was a strong proponent for funding of the arts in Utah schools. Carol was inducted into the Utah Music Educators Association’s Hall of Fame for 2015/2016, the organization’s highest honor and notably the first time this award was given to a woman.
Brieann Lyn Gaylord passed away on January 8, 2023, in Gilbert, AZ. She lived an adventurous life while residing in Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, and Oregon. She graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2014 with her BS in Marketing and was a member of the Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society. During her career in marketing, she worked for various industries including aerospace, manufacturing, and media. She managed social media presence, websites, print media, and marketing events. She is probably best known for her love for animal rescue. She rescued, rehabilitated, and fostered hundreds of animals over the last 15 years.
Sutton, who plays for the Canadian Football League, has signed an extension with the Montreal Alouettes through the 2024 season. Last season, he was an East Division All-Star and led the Alouettes with 79 defensive tackles. He has also recorded 4 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and an interception during the season. He graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2018 with a BS in Communication Studies. During his time with NAU Football, he was named a player of the week following a 20-17 win over the Blue Bombers in Winnipeg.
Villalobos has been appointed as the National Engagement Manager at the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The IMLS is a federal agency that supports libraries and museums across the United States. He will be leading national studies and granting guidelines to help establish the forthcoming National Museum of the American Latino in Washington, D.C. Villalobos graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2007, with a double major in Public Relations and Art History.
Octavio Molera passed away on January 7, 2023. He graduated from Northern Arizona University with his BS in Accountancy in 1969 and his PhD in Education in 2005. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was also an NAU faculty member.
Isobe is the new Communications & Social Media Manager for the Fiesta Bowl. He previously worked in Athletics for Northern Arizona University. He graduated from NAU with his BS in Education in 2011 and earned his MED from NAU in 2013. He is also a member of the True Blue Loyalty Society.
Dunn retired from the Department of the Navy after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Senior Executive service and worked for the Navy and Marine Corps. He is a recipient of the Presidential Rank Award for exceptional sustained service to the United States. Additionally, he was also awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Department of the Navy for exceptional contribution associated with the defense of the United States. He and his wife, Kirsten (fellow 1989 alumna), intend to spend more time with family and continue their adventures around the world. Dunn graduated from Northern Arizona University in 1989 with a BS in Psychology.
Zins is a franchise owner of Crumbl Cookies in Southern California. She opened her first location in July 2022 in her hometown of Ventura Country and is working on opening two more locations in the nearby area. She graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2016 with a BS in Hotel and Restaurant Management and a minor in Business Administration.
Tiderman recently celebrated 20 years at Alaska Airlines. He began working for Alaska Airlines in Phoenix and worked briefly at LAX Airport before moving to Denver. He graduated from Northern Arizona University in 1996 with a BSED in Elementary Education. For Tiderman, a love for the seasons and mountains never left after experiencing Flagstaff’s beauty.
Ramirez recently published his memoir, One Boy’s Story. He is a retired Indio High School Administrator. He graduated from Northern Arizona University in 1969 with a BS in Spanish.
Zizo graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2011 with a BS in Photography and a minor in Criminal Justice. She went on to obtain a Master of Arts in criminal justice from ASU. After college, she began her career at the City of Phoenix in Forensics. She is currently working as a Crime Scene Specialist III and has been with the City of Phoenix since 2015.
John was recently elected and confirmed to serve on the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) Board of Directors. He began his three-year term in December 2022. He graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2005 with a BS in Physics. He went on to graduate from John Hopkins University in 2018 with a Master of Science in systems engineering. Additionally, he was awarded the AISES Most Promising Engineer in 2018. He currently is employed at Raytheon Missiles and Defense in Tucson, AZ.
Hemmert founded The Marcovia Project, a nonprofit organization providing small business loans and access to education in Marcovia, Honduras. She graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2009 and majored in Environmental Sciences and Administration and Policy.
In 2022, Lance joined the administration of the New York Philharmonic as their Associate Director of Major Gifts where he oversees donor programs including the International Advisory Board, Advisory Council, and Heritage Society. He is honored to synthesize his love of classical music and passion for connecting individuals to impact through personal philanthropy. Concurrently, he serves on the Board of Directors for the Grammy Award-winning Kronos Quartet. Before moving to New York, he lived in San Francisco where he worked for venerated Bay Area institutions including San Francisco Ballet, San Francisco Symphony, de Young & Legion of Honor Museums, Oakland Museum of California, and the San Francisco International Film Festival. He graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2006 and majored in Instrumental Performance.
Norwood worked in criminal justice for 15 years, working in law enforcement and probation and parole in New Mexico and Arizona. She is now working for Arizona Public Service. Norwood graduated from Northern Arizona University with her BS in Criminal Justice in 1995.
Jason Thomas Lane passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 26, 2022. He was born in Tucson and was a 1993 graduate of Amphi High School. He graduated with his BS in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Northern Arizona University in 2001 and earned his master’s degree in information technology from the University of Phoenix. While in Flagstaff, he worked as a manager at Busters Restaurant. After moving to Philadelphia, PA in 2005, he was employed as the assistant manager of food service for Philadelphia University and Arcadia University. Since 2020 he had been a systems administrator for La Salle University in Philadelphia. He also served his community as a minority inspector of election for Delaware County, PA. Lane was a family man and loved spending time with his wife, kids. and dogs. He loved to cook, fish, camp, and go canoeing. Jason was a die-hard Eagles fan and will be missed when friends and loved ones celebrate the Eagles victory in the Superbowl.
