Gary Watson ’72
Dr. Cliff Harkins Distinguished Citizen of the Year
Service to his community has defined Gary Watson’s life and career. The 1972 NAU graduate has led several successful businesses, served in multiple government positions, and consistently assumed positions of leadership in his community. He is in his third term as District 1 Supervisor of the Mohave County Board of Supervisors, where he serves as the board chair. Watson currently serves or has served on the BLM/RAC Advisory Council; NACo’s Environment, Energy and Land Use steering committee; and as chair of the WACOG Regional Council. Previously, he served as a member of the City of Kingman Industrial Bonding Authority and was chairman of the board for the Arizona Community Colleges, where he was pivotal in the decision for state universities to accept all credits from the state’s community colleges. He also served as a councilman and vice-mayor for the City of Kingman. His business career included managing his family’s bakery and perishable food distribution company before purchasing and serving as vice president of Blue River Water Corporation and helping start Northern Ice, Inc. Watson is an active member of the Elks Lodge and has served as the chapter’s leader and participates in the organization’s many community service programs to help children and veterans.
