NAU Military-Connected Student Orientation

FALL 2022 NAU Orientation and Veteran and Military Services (VMS) Virtual Information sessions are crucial steps in transitioning to Northern Arizona University.

Choose one of the programs listed below for more information and to register for an Orientation session.

Please Note: To ensure timely payment processing of your VA benefits, it is important to complete all required steps 4 to 6 weeks before the term begins, if possible.

Flagstaff Mountain Campus (Separated/Retired, Active Duty, National Guard/Reservists) Accordion Closed

  • Attend the In-Person 1 day Student Veteran Orientation – Friday, August 26th, 2022. The Veteran Orientation takes the place of the Freshman or Transfer Orientation. Meals included. Register today!
    • *Note: If you serving in the National Guard or Reserves and are a Freshman Student, under 20 years of age, we encourage you to attend an NAU Traditional Freshman Orientation instead of a the Veteran Orientation.
  • View the Online Orientation Modules. Start your online orientation modules here. The online portion of the orientation experience should take 2 hours or less to complete and will provide you with overall resources and tools for success to use during your academic career. We have added important information specifically for military-connect students.
  • Complete Priority Enrollment. Submitting this form is the quickest way to meet with an academic advisor and to get your course schedule.
    • If you are a Graduate student, please contact your designated graduate college for an advising appointment.
  • If you are using the GI Bill®, Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E), or DODTA education benefits, you are expected to attend a 1-hour VMS education benefit info session via Zoom approximately 6 weeks prior to the start of the Fall term for optimal timing of funding.
    • Each college/university administers GI benefits differently; these info sessions are key to understanding the requirements at NAU to initiate your benefits.

  • Wednesday June 15th – 5:30 p.m. (AZ Time) – Flagstaff, Statewide and Online Veterans and Active Duty
  • Thursday June 16th – 5:30 p.m. (AZ Time) – National Guard and Reserves

We will offer all sessions via our Virtual VSC Room!

  • Please review our detailed checklists tailored to your military status and choice of military connected benefit (GI Bill®, DOD Tuition Assistance, or Veteran Readiness & Employment). Please carefully read through each step of your designated checklist to help guide your transition to NAU.

    Wednesday June 15th – 5:30 p.m. (AZ Time) – Flagstaff, Statewide and Online Veterans and Active Duty
    Thursday June 16th – 5:30 p.m. (AZ Time) – National Guard and Reserves

Flagstaff Dependents/Spouses eligible for benefits from a military sponsor Accordion Closed

After you follow the steps below to ensure your VA Educational Benefits are in place, you will be re-directed to the Traditional Student Orientation process.

    The online portion of the orientation experience should take 2 hours or less to complete and will provide you with overall resources and tools for success to use during your academic career. We have added important information specifically for military-connect students.
  • Complete Priority Enrollment. Submitting this form is the quickest way to meet with an academic advisor and to get your course schedule.
    • If you are a Graduate student, please contact your designated graduate college for an advising appointment.
  • If you are using the GI Bill® (Ch. 35 DEA, Transferred Post 9/11, or Fry Scholarship) you are expected to attend a 1-hour VMS Education Benefit Info Session via Zoom approximately 6 weeks prior to the start of the Fall term for optimal timing of funding.
    • Each college/university administers GI benefits differently; these info sessions are key to understanding the requirements at NAU to initiate your benefits.

Date: June 14th – Tuesday 5:30 p.m. (AZ Time). This session is specifically for Spouses and Dependents using VA Educational Benefits (parents are welcome!) Register for the 1 hour zoom sessions here. We will offer all sessions via our Virtual VSC Room!
