Student Veteran Orientation at NAU
Student Orientation for Veterans and Active Duty Beginning in August
Attending new student Veteran and Active Duty Orientation is a crucial step in transitioning to Northern Arizona University. The Orientation will provide you with tools for success to use during your academic career.
While it was our sincere hope not to cancel in-person Orientation events, to ensure the general health and safety of the public, NAU’s Veteran and Military Services has transitioned to an online experience.
The online portion of the orientation experience should take approximately 2.5 hours to complete and will also provide you immediate access to the PRIORITY ENROLLMENT form. Priority Enrollment is the quickest way to get an academic advising appointment and to get your course schedule. Register here for the In-Person Veteran Orientation Event.
Early Start and End to Fall Semester
In the wake of the COVID -19 Pandemic, we are thorough and careful in our approach, as mitigating risks to students, faculty, staff, and local communities is vital. One key mitigation strategy is to begin the fall semester earlier than usual and finish in-person classes by Thanksgiving. Our goal is to take advantage of a period of expected lower COVID-19 case rates, exceptional weather for encouraging outdoor activities, and lower rates of student travel before any potential resurgence of the virus. To ensure we continue to provide our students with a world-class education, the first day of classes for the fall semester will be Wednesday, August 12, and will end before Thanksgiving.
NAU Veteran and Military Services will plan to offer an in-person event for Flagstaff Veteran Student. The in-person portion of NAU Orientation is usually the best part of the experience; therefore, NAU Veteran and Military Services will plan to offer a modified in-person Orientation in addition to the online Orientation. This event will be on Monday, August 10, provided we can maintain your well-being and health. We would offer this as an outside event on the Flagstaff Mountain Campus, and you will have the opportunity to:
- Review VA education benefits and NAU requirements.
- See VA Community Support Representatives
- Meet staff and fellow veteran students.
- Enjoy an outside BBQ on us.
