    • "With my time spent at NAU thus far I have found that it is truly a community with lots of opportunities to succeed. When I first arrived in Flagstaff I was nervous going into college because of the whole unknown aspect of starting college in a foreign country. The transition into college life was easier than expected. It was easy to make friends and get involved in fun hobbies associated with the university. My advice to all students is to get involved in the NAU community as much as possible to make the transition breeze and don’t be shy to reach out to professors and friends when you need help."

    • "Coming to America was something I had only dreamt of and when I was accepted at NAU, I could not have been happier. I chose NAU because of its size. This class size has aided in me having better student-professor relationships. NAU also has one-on-one tutoring that I have personally found beneficial; many of the schools do not have this opportunity. Coming to NAU was the best decision I ever made. I met so many people from different places and now I have friends from all over the world. Be sure to attend orientation and orientation activities because that is where you meet the most people."

NAU proves time after time that they really care about their students. I feel like they always strive to give us their best! I remember feeling lonely and scared the first time, but over time I would say that I have found a home here. NAU has made me a part of their home and I cannot thank them enough."

Visiting them made me feel like I was on another planet. Flagstaff is a beautiful town and bicycle friendly so I suggest that you get a bike! It makes getting around so much easier and you get to really see the town as well. When it comes specifically to my major, I have found that the students and lecturers in the math department feel like a community and really support and help each other."

    • "I come from Seoul, which is a big city in South Korea, and after spending time in New York, (also a big city) I decided that I wanted to pursue my education somewhere quiet and with wonderful weather. I recommend visiting Flagstaff if you like fresh air and nice weather, also on your visit do not be hesitant to try the local cuisine. When I came to NAU, my English proficiency was not at its best. I could barely order some food. If you feel like you are in a similar boat I recommend that you utilize the many available resources available on campus. There are free English tutors who readily help you with checking your grammar and improving your writing skills. At one point in time I was struggling with class work because I couldn’t understand what professor was saying, however I was able to attend the Supplemental Instruction (SI) session for that class. Moreover, there are many TA classes that you can learn what you were not able to understand in class."

In addition to being accepted, I was also fortunate to get a scholarship that assists me in achieving the degree I wanted to earn. The surrounding area of Flagstaff has something to fit every person. If you like adventure NAU is conveniently located close to the Grand Canyon, Horse shoe bend, Mountain hiking and Sedona. Las Vegas is also approximately 3.5 hours away.  NAU seems to be always expanding and this can be seen in the new buildings under construction. In my major, all the teachers are very nice and trying to help in any way the can. They are patient and understanding especially being aware of my language barrier. The classes are not too big, which means that every student gets the right amount of attention."

I saw that the faculty consisted of many industry professionals with lots of experience in the field and I jumped at the chance to learn from them. The people in NAU and in Flagstaff are incredibly friendly and always willing to help each other. My involvement in UTV62, a student-run production studio at NAU, has given me the experience I never thought I would be able to get in college. Through this program, I get hands-on experience of working on a film production from pre-production to post-production! This is the most valuable experience I have gotten at NAU and has made me feel more confident to go out into the working world once I graduate."

    • "NAU’s surroundings was the perfect place for me to spend my time in University. NAU has a really good Criminology and Criminal Justice program and as of today I really do not regret choosing NAU. The professors here at NAU are not just professors! They know so many things from their previous or current employment and help with understanding the material even better while talking about real life cases or scenarios. I have also found that with their wide variety of organizations and clubs, there is something for everyone. NAU helped me to expand my horizons and supported me with defining myself as well as my values. Even though Flagstaff is so different from my home, I felt welcomed and at home pretty soon."

The university has amazing programs for all majors, classes aren’t too crowded and everyone is always willing to help the best way they can. Flagstaff is a charming little town, with a gorgeous view, and a very welcoming and accepting population. Here I made friends for a lifetime, that I know I can count on and trust no matter what. At NAU I'm having a real ‘American University’ experience, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world."

This university has everything that a student needs to reach their goals, including Cline library, which is open until 2:00am on weekdays. NAU not only cares about academics, it also cares about students' interests, and offers a variety of clubs and organizations people can join. I enjoy being part of the National Society of Leadership and Success because it motivates and helps me to achieve my goals. I also enjoy being a member of the international club because I have the privilege to make friends from all over the world and learn about their culture.”

    • “Studying at NAU is a whole different experience for me, considering that I have done my first degree at a Malaysia University. Adaptation to an entirely new country with a whole different culture wasn’t easy. However I would say that being at NAU is one of the best experiences I have gained so far. The professors at the music school are very well rounded and the best part is they are extremely friendly, loving and encouraging. My professor is not only my professor whom I respect but a friend who I can share my frustrations with. Being far away from home is not easy but having such wonderful professor to talk to whenever I face difficulties is simply amazing. Not forgetting wonderful friends that I have met during my stay here at NAU. A college student Christian group, Chi Alpha, is a place where I hang out a lot doing fun activities throughout the year, from camping to rock climbing to Chinese New Year celebrations and even Easter egg hunt! I always say that Chi Alpha is my home away from home, as my pastor Ryan and his wife Kelly treats us students like their own. Lastly, being given the opportunity to work with Center for International Education is definitely something I’m very thankful for. My bosses and superiors are always looking out for us student workers and that is very encouraging. To me, being here at NAU is not only about acing in education but the opportunity to be more independent is something I am truly thankful for.”

The international students here are like a big family, and it’s always easy to get along with them. We also have the “international week”, which allows us to show our unique cultures through various activities. In addition, class discussions are greatly encouraged, and I always appreciate our freedom to share. The professors here are very patient and friendly to international students. They provide us suggestions not only on studies but also on daily life in the US."

    • “Northern Arizona University is a great place to study, make friends, have fun, and, most importantly, making unforgettable memories. Most people in Flagstaff are really nice and friendly so it is really easy to make friends. Getting involved on campus will definitely help you getting to know more people. I have been to a Grand Canyon trip with NAU hiking club and Cabin Getaway with the I-Club. There are lots of activities that you can do to keep you busy other than just going to classes. The professors here are really nice and understanding as well. Professors can help you whenever you are struggling with the materials they are going over in class or even when you need more explanations if you do not understand. There are also student learning centers that students can go to get help if they are behind in their class or even just need help with their homework. There are many resources students can use as long as you seek it. Good luck!”

I absolutely love my classes through the psychology and criminal justice departments and my professors here. The ideas that they present and their tenacity in their teachings reinforce my sense of purpose in my field of study, and broadens my world view. I'm completely happy with my decision to attend NAU!”

When I moved to Flagstaff, I did not expect that I could adjust myself to here so quickly. I thought different food, culture and language barrier would be the big issue. However, I was able to find myself who was already mixed in a community. People in Flagstaff are very friendly and kind to international students. I think NAU have various events that students can enjoy and good academic support. There are several ways to get an academic helps not only as an international student, but also every students. I joined Korean club, which is an official club in NAU. I think joining a club and various activities was helpful to communicate with other students and making friends while sharing my culture.”

Another thing I like about NAU is the activities it has for international students. As an international student myself being here, I am able to experience different cultures through many activities. The professors are really helpful and there are a lot of free learning resources and tutoring services on campus. The staff from international center are friendly and every international student is having the best experience here in NAU away from their homes.”
