Isotopic Analysis Lab

iso lab
The Isotopic Analysis lab was built and is run by Michael Ort of Environmental Sciences and Geology.  Dr. Ort is currently setting up the column chemistry to do U/Th disequilibrium studies. This will allow the lab to date geologic materials (e.g. speleothems, travertine) younger than about 400 ka, as well as do petrologic studies of magma chamber processes.

The lab has:

  • two large laminar flow workstations for column chemistry
  • two HEPA-filtered clean hoods with two-bottle stills and evaporation plates
  •  a fume hood
  • an oven
  • a centrifuge
  • a balance
  • a DI water system.
