Information for students to help determine their progression in math courses.
Courses
MAT 110, College algebra Accordion Closed
Approved transfer credit for MAT 110 is a sufficient prerequisite for the following courses:
- MAT 119*
- MAT 125
- MAT 150
- STA 270
*Students using MAT 110 as a prerequisite for MAT 119 should be aware that an understanding of basic statistics and finance (as seen in MAT 114) will be assumed in MAT 119. As this content is not covered in a typical MAT 110 course, students may need to learn this material on their own in order to be successful in MAT 119.
STA 270, Applied statistics Accordion Closed
Approved transfer or AP credit for STA 270 is a sufficient prerequisite for the following courses:
- MAT 108
- MAT 114
- MAT 150
MAT 131, Topics in calculus Accordion Closed
Approved transfer credit for MAT 131 is a sufficient prerequisite for the following courses:
- MAT 119
- MAT 125
- MAT 150
- STA 270
MAT 131 DOES fulfill FNRQ.
Intermediate algebra
- An earned C or better in Intermediate Algebra (typically 4 credits, MAT 121 or MAT 122 from AZ community colleges) from a community college is a satisfactory prerequisite for MAT 108, MAT 114, MAT 150, STA 270.
- Courses at the Intermediate Algebra level and lower do NOT carry transfer credit at NAU.
Advanced placement (AP)
- A score of 3, 4, or 5 on the AP Statistics test will result in credit for SAT 270.
- A score of 3, 4, or 5 on the AP Calculus AB test will result in credit for MAT 136.
- A score of 3, 4, or 5 on the AP Calculus BC test will result in credit for MAT 136 and MAT 137. Receiving an AB subscore of 3, 4, or 5 will result in credit for MAT 136.
- Scores of 0, 1, or 2 on any AP test do NOT earn any NAU credit and do NOT carry any prerequisite or placement information.
