Jesse Maestas

My name is Jesse Maestas I am a senior majoring in Biology with an emphasis in ecology. I am an active member of The Wildlife society and enjoy volunteering and participating in community service events that benefits the well being of animals. The two areas of study I am most passionate about are freshwater and wildlife ecology. I have a strong passion towards animals and love working and recreating outside. I hope to ultimately gain a career that will allow me to conduct research incorporating these two disciplines. Specifically I would enjoy working with streams and large carnivores such as wolves.

My current research is working with skunk populations in Flagstaff AZ, in response to the fairly recent rabies out break and persistence in the area. The project will be looking at how urbanization influences overall skunk populations and skunk body condition. The results of this study have implications for predicting the possibility of future disease spread.
