Workshop information

This workshop is for those wanting to improve their audition/interview skills, in preparation for professional and academic jobs or entrance into graduate conducting programs.

7 conductors will be invited to participate. Each will receive 40 minutes of podium time with the NAU Symphony Orchestra.

The purpose of these sessions is to practice "auditioning" with a live ensemble. In addition to stick technique, the panelists will assess each conductor's overall ability to connect with and improve the sound of an orchestra.

In between conducting sessions, there will be discussions about the job market, interviewing skills, resume and materials, as well as question-answer time. The application materials of each participant will be reviewed and critiqued by the panelists. Each conductor will be told what his/her perceived strengths and weaknesses are and how to make improvements.

The repertoire is Dvorak’s Symphony No. 7. Participants are expected to prepare two sections from any two movements.
