Julianne Layton was born in Flagstaff, Arizona and began her percussive studies at ten years of age. Julianne finished her undergraduate degree in music performance at Northern Arizona University under the direction of Dr. Steven Hemphill in spring 2013. She served as president of both the NAU Percussion Society and the Delta Eta chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, women's fraternity. In addition to teaching privately, Julianne is founder and co-instructor of Percussion Discovery through the NAU Community Music and Dance Academy. She also performs with the NAU Panorama Steel Pan Ensemble and the traditional celtic band, The Knockabouts.
