Joe and Marie Rolle (1941/1950) Spirit of NAU Award

Dr. Joseph C. Rolle completed degrees at Northern Arizona University in 1941 and 1950 and was the recipient of an honorary doctorate in 1979. As a student, Joe was a member of Blue Key and Chain Gang, participated in football, track and basketball, was both student body president and homecoming king in 1939, and received the President’s Prize in 1940. Post-graduation, Joe served as an ASC/NAU administrator for 36 years, retiring from his post as Dean of Students in 1973. He was actively involved with the NAU Alumni Association, a recipient of the Centennial Award in 1997, and, together with wife Marie, received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1998. Marie M. Rolle managed the Northern Arizona University bookstore and worked in career placement at NAU. She is a graduate of the University of Arizona, where she and Joe met, and a longtime booster of her sorority, Gamma Phi Beta. Supporters of alumni scholarships and athletics, the Rolle family established the Joseph and Marie Rolle Award for Excellence. Joe passed away in 2011, and Marie passed away in 2014.

The Joe and Marie Rolle Spirit of NAU award is presented to an alumna or alumnus who radiates the spirit of NAU.
