Western Undergraduate Exchange Program

Giving out-of-state students a price within reach

Did you know that certain out-of-state students are eligible to receive a reduced tuition rate at Northern Arizona University?

With the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Program, students who meet the university’s admission criteria and live in one of 14 Western states can receive a tuition rate of 1.5 times the cost of in-state tuition—significantly less than out-of-state tuition. This is a reciprocal arrangement between WUE states designed to allow students access to programs that may not be available in their states.

To be eligible, you must be a resident of one of these states or territories:

WUE eligibility

All students are evaluated for eligibility during the admissions process—a separate application is not needed. Eligible students will receive the WUE tuition rate upon admission and subsequent submission of required Prop 300/Citizenship verification documentation. Check your LOUIE Student Center for the documentation due date. The WUE tuition rate applies only to fall and spring semesters.

Our pledge to WUE students

We know financial predictability is important—that’s why Our Pledge to You is a four-year fixed tuition rate.

Application Deadlines

Application deadlines for admission are:

  • Fall: July 1
  • Spring: December 1

WUE Exceptions

WUE rates apply to all of our majors except:

  • Dental Hygiene2
  • Nursing2
Students interested in nursing or dental hygiene are eligible for our reduced WUE tuition rate as pre-program majors. An additional application is still required for these highly competitive programs. See nau.edu/nursing or nau.edu/dentalhygiene for details. If accepted into the professional program major, out-of-state tuition will apply for the remaining terms.
