The ESPGSO was formed in 2001 by graduate students who wanted to have a hand in the shaping of the new MS program. Since that point, graduate students have had representation at Environmental Sciences faculty meetings and played a central role in shaping our curriculum, public outreach, and social activities (which are infinitely more fun than was previously the case). Our program, both graduate and undergraduate, now reflect the participatory element that is central in our curricula. By requesting deep involvement in programmatic matters, and by following through when opportunities for formal roles were presented, ESPGO has helped the Center for Environmental Sciences and Education "walk the talk" regarding student-based approaches to education and research.
