Searching for Applications

Searching for applications in Windows 8 is different than in previous versions of Windows.  You can run a search for Windows 8 applications by following these instructions.

Step 1

If you are not already in the Start menu, press the Windows key to open it.  In the Start menu, begin typing the name of the application you want.  A sidebar will appear with a search field.  The application(s) matching your search will appear in the main part of the screen.


Finding Applications Manually

In addition to running a search, there is a manual way to find applications.  You can manually find applications in Windows 8 by following these step-by-step instructions.

Press the Windows key to access the Start menu.  In the Start menu, right-click an empty space on the screen.

Step 2

A bar will appear at the bottom of the screen.  Left-click "All apps" on the far right-hand side of this bar.

You will see a screen like the one in the above image.  This is your complete list of applications.  You can scroll left and right to find the application you want.
