Installing Microsoft Office on NAU owned Computers
The Microsoft Office installers referenced on this page are for NAU departmental use on NAU owned computers only. You must be logged into the NAU domain in order to access these installers.
- Faculty/Staff: For home use, you must purchase Microsoft packages through the ITS Software Store.
- Students: You may purchase Microsoft Office and operating system products at the NAU Bookstore.
Installing Microsoft Office for Windows on NAU owned computers
Microsoft Office 2010 for Windows (Latest Version)
ITS strongly recommends that you take training to familiarize yourself with Office 2010 if you are migrating from Office 2003 or older. Information on training can be found on the Information Systems Technology Training website.
Office 2010 includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Publisher.
You must be logged into the NAU domain to install this software.
To install Office 2010, click on Start > Run and type in (or copy and paste)
The 64 bit version of MS Office 2010 is also available but not recommended for general use. There are serious backward compatibility issues with sharing documents created in 64 Bit Office, particularly documents created in the 64 bit version of Access. Do not install this version unless it is required for your particular workflow:
Office 2010 requires activation, which must occur while your computer is connected to the NAU network. After installation, activate your copy of Office 2010: Select the appropriate activation script from the table below:

Microsoft Office 2007 for Windows

Installing Microsoft Office for Macintosh on NAU-Owned Computers
Microsoft Office for Macintosh (All Versions)
Microsoft Office for Macintosh version 2011 is the latest version. This version only runs on Intel-based Macs and is compatible with Mac OS X up through Lion (10.7). It includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook.
Microsoft Office 2008 for Macintosh is slightly older, supports both PowerPC and Intel based Macs and is compatible with Mac OS X up through Snow Leopard (10.6.x). It includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Entourage. After installing this version you must also install the Entourage Web Services update to use Entourage with NAU's email server. The EWS-1305-EN.dmg file containing the update is stored in the same folder as Office 2008.
- In the Finder menu, click Go > Connect to Server.
- In the "Connect to Server" dialog box, type in smb://naushares/officemac
A login box will appear. Enter information as follows:
- (If you get an error, repeat these steps and enter smb://naushares.ucc.nau.edu/officemac into the "Connect to Server" box.)
Click OK and the OfficeMac window will open.
- Workgroup/Domain = NAU (if prompted)
- Username = your NAU ID (e.g. abc123)
- Password = your email password
To install: Open the Office folder of your choice on the server and then double-click the office disk image file (ending in either .ISO or .DMG) in that folder to mount it. This will open the disk image and show you the installer for the version of Office you selected. Double click that installer to install Office on your Mac.
To burn a copy to a recordable DVD for later install: first drag and drop the desired Office .ISO or .DMG file to your desktop to copy the files to your local hard drive. After the copy completes, control-click the .ISO or .DMG file you copied and choose "Burn to disk..." from the contextual menu that appears.
