Connecting from NAU's Network

Windows Computers

If your NAUShares Drive is automatically mapped to "Computer" (Windows Vista and 7) or "My Computer" (Windows 98 - XP) then when you log into your computer you will be able to connect to NAUShares Drive.

If your NAUShares Drive is not mapped to your "Computer" (Windows Vista and 7) or "My Computer" (Windows 98 - XP):

  1. Open up your "Computer" (Windows Vista and 7) or "My Computer" (Windows 98 - XP) 
  2. Choose to "Map network drive."
    1. In Windows Vista and Windows 7 "Map network drive" appears in the menu bar.
    2. In Windows 98 - XP "Map network drive" appears under the "Tools" menu in the menu bar. 
  3. Choose the drive letter from the drop down that you would like to map the drive to.
  4. In the "Folder" field type "\\naushares.ucc.nau.edu\****
    1. **** Type in the name of the folder. Remember to put a forward slash "\" between folders .
  5. Leave the rest of the options at their defaults and click the "Finish" button.
  6. This will map a drive to the letter you choose in your "Computer" (Windows Vista and 7) or "My Computer" (Windows 98 - XP). 

You may be prompted between steps 5 and 6 with an authentication screen. If you are prompted for your infomation follow the steps below:

  1.  In the user name field type in your user id** and in the password field type in your current NAU password.
    1. ** If you are logging in with a student domain account put nau-students\user id** in the name field 
  2. Once your user name and password have been entered, press the enter key.
  3. This should map a drive to the letter you choose in your "Computer" (Windows Vista and 7) or "My Computer" (Windows 98 - XP).

Apple / Macintosh Computers

If your Mac is on the NAU Network then follow the steps listed below:

  1. Navigate to the "Finder" (It is the icon that looks like a face split in two).
  2. Click on the "Go" menu in the menu bar.
  3. Click on "Connect to Server" in the "Go" menu.
  4. In the "Server Address:" field type in "smb://naushares.ucc.nau.edu/****"
    1. **** Type in the name of the folder. Remember to put a forward slash "/" between folders.
  5. Once the address is completed then click "Connect"
  6. In the authentication screen choose to "Connect as" a "Registered User" in the name field, type in your user id**, and in the password field type in your current NAU password.
    1. ** If you are logging in with a student domain account put nau-students\user id** in the name field.
  7. Once your user name and password have been entered, click "Connect."
  8. The window for you home drive will open. You will also see a mounted drive on your desktop while you are connected.

Connecting from an outside network

Windows Computers

If your NAUShares Drive is automatically mapped to "Computer" (Windows Vista and 7) or "My Computer" (Windows 2000 and XP) then when you start your VPN you will be able to connect to NAUShares.

  1. Connect to your VPN.
  2. Once connected, right click on and empty part of your desktop and select "New."
  3. Select "Shortcut."
  4. In the "Type the location of the item" type \\naushares.ucc.nau.edu\****
    1. **** Type in the name of the folder. Remember to put a forward slash "\" between folders.
  5. Once the address is completed then click "Next."
  6. In the "Type a name for this shortcut:" type "NAUShares" and click "Next."
  7. This should put an Icon on your desktop called "NAUShares." Double click the icon to access your NAUShares folder.

You may be prompted between steps 6 and 7 with an authentication screen or when you click on the icon on your desktop. If you are prompted, for your infomation follow the steps below:

  1.  In the user name field type in your user id** and in the password field type in your current NAU password.
    1. ** If you are logging in with a student domain account put nau-students\user id in the name field.
  2. Once your user name and password have been entered press the enter key.
