NAU Directory Services (LDAP): Setting Up an Account

Mac OS X

This guide will show you how to set up an NAU LDAP account on Mac OS X.

Step 1

Mac OS X menu bar

Click the Apple icon in the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Click "System Preferences" in the menu.

Click on the "Internet Accounts" icon.

Scroll down the list of account types on the right side of the window and click "Add Other Account..."

Troubleshooting: If you do not see the list of account types, click on the "+" button on the bottom left.

Add an LDAP Account OSX 10.9

1. In the pop up menu, click the radio button to the left of "Add an LDAP account".

2. Click the "Create" button.

1. Type "NAU LDAP" into the "Description" text box.

2. Type "ou=people,dc=nau,dc=edu" into the "Search base" text box.

3. Type "ldap.nau.edu" into the "Server Address" text box.

4. Click on the triangle next to "Server Options" to reveal additional options.

5. Type "636" into the "Port" text box.

6. Click on the check box to the left of "Use SSL" to check it.

7. Click on the drop down menu next to "Authentication" and select "Simple".

8. Click the "Create" button.

iOS 7

This guide will show you how to set up an NAU LDAP account in iOS 7. This process is the same for iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad devices. Note that your device must be connected to the internet to set up an LDAP account.  This will not work on the "NAU-Guest" network.  If you are on campus and would like to connect to the NAU wireless network, follow the instructions at: http://nau.edu/its/learn/Secure-Wifi/iOS/.

Step 1

Tap on Settings iOS 7.0.4

On the home screen, tap "Settings."


Step 2

Add Mail, Contacts, Calendars Account iOS 7.0.4

1. On the "Settings" screen, tap "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" in the left-hand menu.

2. Tap "Add Account" in the right-hand pane.


Step 3

Add Other Mail, Contacts, Calendars Account iOS 7.0.4

Tap "Other."


Step 4

Add LDAP Account iOS 7.0.4

Tap "Add LDAP Account."

LDAP Server and Description iOS 7.0.4

1. In the "Server" field, type "ldap.nau.edu".

2. In the "Description" field, type "NAU LDAP".

3. Tap "Next" when you are finished.

Troubleshooting: If you receive a message stating "Cannot Connect Using SSL", it is likely that you are on the "NAU-Guest" network. Tap "Cancel" on the message and visit http://nau.edu/its/learn/Secure-Wifi/iOS/ to learn how to connect to the "NAU" network before continuing.

LDAP Add Search Settings iOS 7.0.4

Tap "Add Search Settings."


Step 7

LDAP Base and Description iOS 7.0.4

1. In the "Base" field, type "ou=people,dc=nau,dc=edu".

2. In the "Description" field, type "NAU LDAP".

3. When you are finished, tap the back arrow in the top left-hand corner of the window.


Step 8

LDAP Save iOS 7.0.4

Tap "Save" to complete the setup of your NAU LDAP account in iOS 7.
