The BCC recently acquired three of the most innovative software tools available on the market today. This software will aid students in producing on time, high quality writing assignments while at the same time building their writing skills and vocabulary.

While none of these software programs will write the paper for you, Grammarly and Visual Thesaurus will help you with sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, word usage, as well as aid in word pronunciation.  The Assignment Calculator will enable you to schedule your study time for all of your class requirements so that you never have to run the risk of missing an assignment deadline again. Additionally, the Assignment Calculator can also be used for a variety of other time management situations involving long term planning such as student organization and work projects.

Grammarly, Visual Thesaurus, and the Assignment Calculator are only available for usage in the BCC.

The Assignment Calculator

The Assignment Calculator was designed to help students learn time management skills as well as aiding them in setting goals in order to complete large complex writing projects. The student simply enters the date when the project begins and when it is due and the software will generate an in-depth weekly schedule that, when followed, will enable them to finish their writing assignments on time.

Grammarly

This amazing web based software allows the BCC staff to copy/paste your paper into Grammarly which will then generate a comprehensive report of your work. The program checks for grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure. Additionally, it checks for undocumented citations also known as plagiarism.

In order to take advantage of this invaluable writing resource you must do the following:

Email a copy of your paper to the BCC in advance or bring a flash drive with your paper on it to the BCC.

Schedule at least a 30 minute appointment with a BCC Consultant to review the results of the report.

There are no exceptions to these requirements. You must meet with a BCC Consultant in order to take advantage of this invaluable service.

Visual Thesaurus

Visual Thesaurus uses the latest computer technology to aid even the most skilled writer in the expansion of their vocabulary. When students enter a word into the search field the software generates what it calls, “Word maps that blossom with meanings and branch to related words.” The student can also click on the speaker icon located by the main search word to hear a clear pronunciation of the word.
