Title IX at NAU

No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.

Northern Arizona University prohibits discrimination based on sex or gender in all its programs or activities. Sex discrimination includes sexual harassment, sexual assault, relationship violence and stalking.

The following are typically Title IX concerns:

  • Sexual harassment
  • Sex or gender based harassment or discrimination
  • Sexual violence
  • Gender based stalking
  • Relationship violence
  • Pregnancy discrimination
  • Sexual orientation harassment or discrimination
  • Gender identity harassment or discrimination

The Title IX Coordinator has overall responsibility for Title IX compliance, including training, education, and administration of grievance procedures. The Equity and Access Office handles complaints of discrimination and sexual harassment against any member of the university community. The office also oversees the Safe Working and Learning Environment Policy (SWALE). The Office of Student Life handles complaints against students covered by the Student Code of Conduct.
