Knowledge is power. In August and September, start your freshman experience by learning how to enjoy a fun, healthy, and active lifestyle. 

Get in shape and learn tips on how to lead a healthy lifestyle in our group exercise classes. Get started with any Welcome Week event listed below or at the Freshman Fusion Expo on Saturday, August 23rd. Bring your family to participate in the Freshman Fusion Family Weekend events in late September. Participate in any event this month and receive a Freshman Fusion T-Shirt.

Friday, August 22
5pm                 20-20-20
Three workouts in one! The 20-20-20 class is designed to give you the ultimate challenge and total body workout. Sweat through 20 minutes of arms, 20 minutes of legs, and 20 minutes of abs and core work. Are you ready for the challenge?
Location:  Health and Learning Center- Recreation Center (Exercise Suite #2)

 

6pm                 Cycle
This class will challenge you in ways you didn’t think possible with sprints, climbs, and jumps. This intense workout is designed to increase your cardiovascular endurance with high energy music and exhilarating rides! Participants will remain on the bike throughout this workout. Due to equipment limitations, this class is limited to 30 participants, first come first serve.

Saturday, August 23
10am               The Letters, Zumba Party & Freshman Fusion/Sport Club Expo
Play a part in the monumental annual freshman photo event! Each freshman student who attends will receive a free True Blue NAU shirt to wear in the photo or come already geared up in your blue and gold. Arrive as early as 10am to get your shirt, check out the Sport Club Expo and Freshman Fusion Expo. Also, plan to be a part of the Freshmen Zumba Party.

5pm                 All Levels Yoga
Through this class, gain experiential knowledge while you are taught the foundations of yoga. Learn how to focus on technique and alignment of each posture and open up your body for breathing, flexibility, and strength training. The workout helps reduce your stress and improves your physical and mental balance. Each yoga workout can be easily modified to accommodate all experience levels. Please bring your own yoga mat to each class. The front desk has limited supply so please plan accordingly.

6pm                 Bootcamp
You can command Power, Strength, and Agility with this high intensity circuit workout that will push you to your limits. As you maneuver your way through each workout station, you'll lunge, crunch, jump, and more for a full body workout. In the end, you'll leave the class feeling exhilarated!

Sunday, August 24
12pm               Hardcore Abs
Tired of endless crunches?  Train your core from the inside out using stability balls, medicine balls, and your own body weight.  You’ll experience a total front and back abdominal workout which will help you achieve your core strengthening goals.
Location:  Health and Learning Center- Recreation Center (Exercise Suite #2)

12:30pm          BLT (Butt, Legs, & Thighs)
Total focus on the lower body using bands, dumbbells, balls, and body bars. Lower body training at its finest! 30 minutes is all you'll need to feel the burn!

Monday, August 25
6pm                 Free Personal Fitness Assessments
Start your semester off by getting your workout questions answered by certified personal trainers. They’ll discuss appropriate goal setting, give you workout ideas and information how you and your friends can sign up for your FREE Personal Training session.

Wednesday, August 27
4-6pm              Health-a-Palooza
Discover the Seven Wonders of the Health and Learning Center as you embark on your collegiate journey by exploring an explosive, high-energy Health-a-palooza style Expo! This is the perfect opportunity to check out a variety of programs and services offered in the HLC. Enter a raffle for prizes, learn the hottest workouts at the Fitness performance stage, meet the “dogtors” of Counseling Services, sign-up for tours of the facilities, and challenge your skills on the Wellness Wheel. Additional opportunities include gaining baseline knowledge of your blood pressure and BMI and relax with NAU’s Stressbusters back rubs. Don’t miss out on NAU’s health, fitness, and wellness wonders!

Freshman Connections Hall Health and Wellness Week

Get your groove on and your “glove” on!  During this Zumba workout you’ll receive quick tips for a healthy sex life and staying STI free ‘cause you know you’ll be feeling sexy after this Latin infused dance workout perfect for anyone with our without dance experience!

Sunday                        7pm     Boozecamp
Get ready to hit it hard in this bootcamp class that will focus on improving your endurance, stamina, strength, power, speed, and coordination.  During this workout you’ll also get some quick tips on how to reduce your risks-and calories- if you choose to drink.

Monday           7pm     Feed Your Machine & Hardcore Abs
Train your core from the inside out using your own body weight.  You’ll experience a total front and back abdominal workout which will help you achieve your core strengthening goals.  You’ll also leave with tips on how to fuel up for optimal health.

Tuesday           7pm     Siesta & Latin Dance
Get some tips on healthy napping then get moving to the beat of latin music and learn the afro-Cuban dance of Salsa, the Dominican love music of Bachata, and the fun flively Dominican style of Merengue.  Siesta anyone?

Wednesday     7pm     Stress B Gone & All Levels Yoga
Yoga your way to reduced stress while improving your physical and mental balance.  You’ll also leave this class with tips on how to achieve this same type of relaxation every day!  Please bring your own yoga mat or towel!

Friday              7pm     Knock it off & Kickboxing
This workout will help you box your way to stronger cardiovascular and muscular endurance levels.  You’ll experience weight bearing intervals that will make your body burn and you’ll also learn tips on how to solve conflicts- no boxing required.

September 27
8am                 Family 5k Run/2 mi Walk
Here's your chance to have a FREE fun run with your family before you tailgate the football game! This 5k run is a partner run: Father/Daughter, Father/Son, Mother/Daughter, Mother/Son, Sibling/Sibling, or Other/Other. The first 100 runners through the gate will get a special gift, and we have awards for the winning teams as well as light refreshments.

NAU Students: Please sign your team up at www.imleagues.com/nau. You may also wait and sign up on the morning of the event, Saturday 9/27. The event begins at 8am. Registration will be 7am-7:45am at the entrance to Lumberjack Stadium, where the NAU Soccer Team plays, adjacent to the Recreation Center.
