Enrollment checklist
A lot goes into preparing for your arrival to Northern
Arizona University. Use our handy enrollment checklist to make sure you don’t
forget any important steps.
Step 1 – Accept your offer of admission

Step 2 – Submit your enrollment deposit

You must reserve your space at the university with a $325 enrollment deposit.
Your deposit of $325 is due by May 1st. This deposit includes:
- housing fee
- student ID card fee
- enrollment deposit
Once you submit your housing application, the housing fee is non-refundable. If you do not complete a housing application, $100 will be credited to your student account. The remaining $225 is refundable until May 1st.
Pay your deposit in one of the following ways:
- Pay online using American Express, Discover, MasterCard, Visa or e-check. (You’ll need your NAU ID number, found on your admission offer letter.)
- Mail a check or money order to:

Make checks payable to Northern Arizona University, and include your name and NAU ID number.
3. Drop off your payment in person to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Orientation at Sechrist Hall, building 42, in the Sechrist Resource Center.
Step 3 – Apply for housing

If you plan to live on campus, apply for on-campus housing as early as possible, because after May 1, housing is no longer guaranteed.
After paying your enrollment deposit, please allow one business day for access to your housing application to become available.

Step 4 – Register for new student orientation

Orientation is a chance for you to get a feel for life on campus and to plan out your class schedule before your first semester begins. Make sure you secure the orientation date you want by registering early.
Want to bring a guest to orientation?
Family members are welcome and encouraged to attend orientation for a minimal cost. All meals and materials are included in the cost. Register your guests when you register for orientation.

Step 5 – Apply for financial aid

Step 6 – Sign up for placement testing

The NAU ALEKS Placement Test must be taken to enroll in any math class unless you have:
- earned credit for a college-level mathematics or statistics course via CLEP exam, AP exam, or IB exam
- earned credit for a college-level mathematics or statistics course (equivalent to MAT101X or higher) via dual enrollment or via transfer from another college or university
The placement test is an online exam. Students do not need to be on campus to take the test and there is no cost to take the exam.
Contact the Testing Center to register for placement exams or the College Level Examination Program (CLEP).
Step 7 – Priority enrollment

Once you have registered for orientation, you have the privilege of early class selection for your first semester.
Complete the personal profile for priority enrollment at Gateway Student Success Center on or after February 13, 2012 for the best selection of first semester courses. Professional academic advisors will place you in the best classes—given your interests and overall profile—and review your schedule with you at orientation.
Step 8 – Verify your citizenship

The state of Arizona requires documentation that each student receiving benefits from state—including in-state tuition—is a legal citizen. If you have filed for FAFSA, you usually will NOT have to provide additional documentation. If you have not filed the FAFSA you will need
to provide documentation.
Step 9 – Send evidence of immunizations

You are also required to show verification of your measles (rubeola) vaccination. If this information is not listed on your high school transcript, please download the Immunization Form and mail to the below address.
Documentation must show proof of: two measles (rubeola) vaccinations after your first birthday, at least 28 days apart; OR signed documentation by a physician of measles (rubeola) disease or documentation of measles (rubeola) titer showing immunity.
Please visit Fronske Health Center for more details. Include your full name and NAU ID number (found on your offer letter) when you mail your documentation.

Step 10 – Complete the family educational rights and privacy act (FERPA) release form

As a university student, you must give permission if you would like your parents and/or another person to have access to your educational records by signing the
FERPA release form. The completed form should be submitted to the
Office of the Registrar.
Step 11 – Submit your final high school and/or college transcripts

After high school graduation, you must request that your high school send your final transcript to:

Transfer students
Students transferring from a community college or university must also request that a final official transcript showing all grades for coursework enrolled is sent to us. This will be used to make sure proper evaluation of transfer credit is completed. Send to the same address as above.
