Values
COLLABORATION: UC fosters interdisciplinary collegial
conversations amongst faculty and campus partners concerning effective
pedagogies and initiatives for first-year student success.
CULTURE AND COMMUNITY: UC aims to play a key role in
strengthening a learning-centered campus culture that significantly impacts
first-year student success while also providing opportunities for faculty to
share and learn from each other as they play an ongoing and involved role in
helping their students succeed.
STUDENT ENGAGEMENT, SUCCESS, AND RETENTION: UC partners work
toward engaging our students to prepare for work and life in the 21st Century
by drawing on best practices and tools for sustaining an effective
learning-centered environment for our first year students.
DESIGN, TECHNOLOGY, AND INSTITUTIONAL INITIATIVES: UC
partners work within a supportive environment to try new and rigorous
approaches, strategies and resources that enhance student excellence and
achievement through a focus on deliberate designs for learning and effective
use of technology.
SUSTAINING EXCELLENCE THROUGH EXPERTISE, PRACTICAL SKILLS,
AND LEARNING CENTERED STRATEGIES: UC works toward advancing new teaching and
learning initiatives that impact and strength student achievement and success
by drawing upon the expertise of faculty and professionals.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND RESEARCH: UC offers
opportunities for faculty and partners to develop professionally while at the
same time enriching the first year experience for students. Opportunities for
advancing the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) will reinforce
faculty and staff contributions to the NAU and national discourse on teaching
and learning in higher education.
