How to request a policy exception

To request a policy exception from the Academic Standards Committee (ASC), you should follow these procedures:

  • Review the information about which policy exceptions are handled by the ASC.  If the policy in question is not adjudicated through another channel, then e-mail, and clearly state the policy for which you are requesting an exception.

  • Briefly explain any extenuating circumstances that prevented you from following normal university policy, such as illness or family death. You need to attach official documentation

  • You must meet the deadlines for submission.

    • The ASC meets once a month, and evaluates requests for exceptions based upon the written record provided. Personal appearances are not permitted.

  • You are notified of the ASC’s decision via e-mail approximately 12 business days after the submission deadline.
