NAUreads asks all first-year students to read the same book and encourages students to participate in conversations about the book. This provides all our first year students with a common experience as they begin their educational journey. Students can use the book to initiate conversations and build community with their new classmates, roommates, and faculty. The program includes opportunities to participate in:
- Book club discussions with faculty and staff
- Author presentations
- Film series related to the books central themes and issues
- Lectures on topics related to the book
- Class discussion based on the book
2013 Book Selection
NAUreads is excited to announce the 2013 selection, Every Day, by David Levithan.
The 2013 selection Every Day is the story of person “A” who wakes up every day in a different body. Changing from short to tall, male to female, and any ethnicity or background, “A” must rapidly adapt to new surroundings and live each day as different individual. The book is a story of discovering how we interact, accept and love each other, despite what we might look like on the outside. Through this engaging story, you will be challenged to think about your identity, relationships, values and goals.
As you read Every Day, you should think about what it means to be true to yourself and who you want to be as a student at Northern Arizona University. What expectations will guide you through your NAU journey?
First-Year students will be given a complimentary copy of the book at Orientation. Parents and the NAU community may purchase a copy at the NAU Bookstore.
