Video résumés, infographic résumés, career-focused websites, online portfolios can all supplement your traditional résumé and help you stand out amongst the crowd. But a non-traditional résumé is not for all career paths. If you are entering a creative field, this could be an option for you.
Things to consider:
- Consider your Industry
- Will a non-traditional résumé benefit you in your job market? Do recruiters want a creative out-of-the-box thinker?
- Follow job application guidelines
- If a company asks for a traditional résumé, give them one. If they ask for a particular format (Word document or PDF), make sure your résumé is in that format.
- Your skill level
- Do you have want it takes to create a non-traditional résumé? When a non-traditional résumé is done well, the applicant can come across creative and innovative. When done poorly, the application comes across unprofessional and sloppy.
