During the Interview

You have done your research. You have practiced interview questions. You are dressed the part. Now is the time to win them over!

Be Prompt!

Be sure to arrive about 10 minutes early! If you are running late, be sure to call them right away. 

Be Organized!

Be sure to bring with you extra copies of your resume and a notebook and pen. 

Be Prepared!

Prepare 5-10 questions to ask during your interview. You can ask anything you want to know about the company, department, or position. Do not ask about salary or benefits at this time. 

Elevator Speech

One of the most common questions and one of the most difficult to answer is "Tell me about yourself." Be sure to prepare your answer ahead of time. 
Things to include in this speech are:
  • Your degree
  • Relevant examples for your experience such as internships, research, volunteer activities, and extracurricular involvement
Things not to include:
  • Age
  • Marital status
  • Religion
  • Politics
  • Ethnicity
  • Sexual Orientation
  • Children
  • Disabilities
