Victim/Witness Services for Coconino County
Overview
Victim/Witness Services (V/WS) is a private, non-profit, non-governmental
agency consisting of full- and part-time staff, volunteer victim advocates, and
student interns working together to support victims throughout the criminal or
juvenile justice process.
V/WS assists victims of crimes and crisis occurring within
Coconino County, including:
- Homicide
- aggravated assault
- domestic violence
- sexual assault
- armed robbery
- child physical and sexual abuse
- DUI crimes with fatalities or injuries
Services include:
- immediate crisis intervention
- crisis counseling
- court escort
- transportation to/from court
- child care while testifying in court
- assistance with victim compensation benefits
- social service agency referrals
- information on Arizona Victims’ Rights laws
- victim and witness advocacy
- follow-up support
- community education/public information
These services are designed to help victims/witnesses and
their families recover from the initial trauma of a crime and to cope with the
difficulties and confusion involved in the criminal justice
process.
Duties
Interns will be able to learn most aspects of a
victim/witness program and may eventually manage a small caseload (with staff
assistance and depending of number of internship hours per week). Interns
will be expected to assist with data entry and clerical work.
Qualifications
V/WS prefers students who are:
- junior level or above
- mature
- responsible
- hardworking
