Northern Arizona Council of Governments (NACOG): Area Agency on Aging
Overview
NACOG is a nonprofit membership corporation representing local
governments to provide a wide variety of services within the four Arizona
counties of Apache, Coconino, Navajo, and Yavapai.
The Area Agency on Aging program's purpose is to develop a
comprehensive and coordinated system to deliver services to older
individuals. The agency is charged with securing and maintaining maximum
independence and dignity for older persons and with removing individual social
barriers to economic and personal independence.
Duties
There are two programs:
- The Family Caregiver Support Program, a federal
program enacted through the Older Americans Act Amendments of 2000. The
goals of the program are to provide supportive services to qualified
individuals who provide care for an elderly person living at home, or to
grandparent(s) raising a relative under the age of 19. The services
offered include:
- case management
- respite
- caregiver training
- home repair
- assistive devices
- legal assistance
- Medicare/Benefits Counseling Program, a program
where trained counselors assist with questions about:
- Medicare
- Medigap insurance
- other public benefits
