Coconino Coalition for Children and Youth (CCCY)
Duties
The intern will:
- develop and lead a new Youth Council made up of
local middle and high school students; the council will assist in guiding the
priorities of the CCCY and will involve
- public speaking
- recruitment
- organizing and facilitating meetings
- work with the Youth Assets Committee to assist
in the implementation of the Promoting Assets with Sculpture (PAWS) project,
which is based on the 40 developmental assets that were identified by the Search Institute as necessary
supports, opportunities, values, and skills that young people need to achieve
success; the committee is working with local artists, youth, businesses, and
non-profit organizations to design and install 40 mountain lion sculptures
throughout Flagstaff, with each lion
depicting one of the essential developmental assets
- plan, organize, and implement workshops and
other community education opportunities related to major issues that affect
children and youth in our community; the workshops may address issues including
- sexual violence
- poverty
- racism
- predators on the internet
- child abuse
- attend multi-disciplinary meetings related to
children’s and youth issues
- learn skills in professional writing and public
speaking
- advocate for children and youth at the local,
regional, and state level
