Special Education Learning Experiences for Competency in Teaching (SELECT) is a federally funded program sponsored by the Arizona Department of Education and offered through the Institute for Human Development at Northern Arizona University. SELECT courses are recommended for special and general education teachers, administrators, related service personnel, paraeducators, and other interested individuals.
Certified school personnel can take SELECT classes for renewal hours. SELECT classes can be taken for university credit for those teachers or administrators who are required by their school districts to have official transcripts and for those who may need to transfer hours out of state (tuition and associated fees apply). The classes can also be taken for Professional Growth contact hours for free.
News and Happenings
Summer 2017 enrollment is now OPEN!
Please contact the Arizona Department of Education Certification Office if you have questions about renewal hours:
SELECT courses may not apply to a degree program without prior written approval from your academic advisor. In general, only one or two SELECT classes can be used as elective requirements for a degree program at NAU.
SELECT courses are taught online and are worth three (3) academic credit hours or up to forty-five (45) contact hours. SELECT courses are graduate-level. Please contact SELECT
to view a course syllabus.
We recommend viewing our Enrollment Guidelines
prior to enrolling in SELECT courses.
If you would like to be added to our student listserv, please email SELECT@nau.edu.
Please note whether you are interested in NAU academic credit or Professional Growth.
Admitted NAU students taking SELECT courses for academic credit will receive a link to the course evaluation via Blackboard Learn. Professional Growth students will be sent a link via email prior to the end of the course. Please note, Professional Growth students do not have access to the course evaluation in Blackboard Learn.
