2016 - Cowden - Jonathan Bloot

Name: Jonathan Bloot
Year: Senior
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Hometown: Acton, CA
Why I chose NAU: NAU was a diamond in the rough for me. As one of the few out-of-state colleges that I applied to, I didn't know what to expect until I visited to school. When I finally made the trip up here, I fell in love with the campus and surrounding areas. I was also glad that they carried a strong program in my field of interest, mechanical engineering.
Why I’m excited to be an RA: Being an RA has been one of the biggest growing experiences of my life. First off, I love helping people and making them smile, which i get to do on a daily basis as an RA. Secondly, the position offers a unique leadership role in serving as a role model for both residents and fellow staff members. The job is challenging, but knowing at the end of the day that I made a difference in someones life makes it all worthwhile.

2016 - Cowden - Kianna Mattie

Name: Kianna Mattie
Year: Sophomore
Major: Social Work
Hometown: Phoenix, AZ
Why I chose NAU: When I toured NAU, I felt a strong sense of diversity. There wasn't much diversity where I grew up, so when picking a place to attend college. I hoped to live somewhere that was more diverse, and had a more open minded atmosphere. It is also a beautiful campus, where I get to experience four different seasons!
Why I’m excited to be an RA: I am excited to get the chance to connect with students, build relationships, and try to create a sense of community. I hope to be a friendly, supportive, and resourceful person, that my residents can come to.

I didn't realize how much I would come to love NAU and Flagstaff until I moved back to Phoenix for the summer and was looking forward to when I would get to move back.
Why I’m excited to be an RA: I am excited to be an RA because I love helping people and connecting with new people. I am also excited because I get to work alongside some amazing individuals and I can/am learning so much.
