Sponsored by Housing and Residence Life

Fashion

The first annual Eco Fashion Show was held on Tuesday April 16, 2013 to kick off NAU’s Earth Week events with more than 300 people in attendance. We had thirteen individual designers or design teams send 14 separate looks down the runway. Designers were tasked with creating original designs that used 75% reclaimed, reused, recyclable, or organic and natural materials. They were given a $5 budget for supplies such as zippers, thread, etc.

The purpose of this event was to show that being sustainable does not have to be all doom and gloom, sacrifice or inconvenience. Not everyone can or will want to design clothing, but we all have the ability to be creative and think about new ways to reuse and transform items that may typically be considered waste.

We had four wonderful judges

Judges
  • Jenn Jones, local fashion designer and owner of Madame 2 Sew
  • Chelsae Currie, Cowden Residence Hall Director and author of personal fashion blog “A Classic With a Twist
  • Whitney Port, reality TV star and fashion designer
  • Nolan Bade, environmental science major and environmental artist

Judging was based on creativity, craftsmanship, environmental consciousness, and presentation.
