What are the requirements to
You must be a current, full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate
in good academic standing with at least 15 credits completed at NAU. You must be in the process of obtaining your
first bachelor’s degree and have less than 75 credit hours (including transferred hours) when the internship begins. Some faculty include additional qualifications on
How do I apply?
The Spring 2013 student application period is now closed. The application period for Fall 2013 internships will be August 1 through September 5, 2013. You will use an Internship Application online form that is available when
the application period is open.
Do I have to know the faculty
mentor before I apply for an internship?
No. Faculty mentors will
choose the most qualified applicant for the internship.
What should be in my resume?
Your resume should support your qualifications for the
position, and include basic information about your:
- educational background
- past activities
- work experiences
- volunteer activities if relevant
Can I apply for multiple
Yes. You may apply for up to two projects for the spring semester.
However, you may accept only one internship per semester.
What should be in my
Statement of Interest?
This is your opportunity to tell the faculty member why you are
interested in the project, your work values, and how the internship will help
you meet your educational goals. Be sure to address any specific qualifications listed in the internship description. The statement must be under 400 words in
May I contact the faculty
member directly about an internship? No. If you have questions about a project, please contact the
Undergraduate Research Coordinator at 928-523-1026 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
What happens after I submit
The Undergraduate Research Coordinator and staff will review
the applications to verify that the applicants meet the minimum qualifications.
All qualified applications for a project will be forwarded to the faculty mentor.
The faculty mentor will contact the students they want to
interview. Internship offers will be made by the faculty mentor. Meeting the minimum
qualifications does not guarantee an interview or a position. If you are not
selected for a project, you will be notified via e-mail.
May I receive credit for the
With the recommendation of your faculty mentor and your
academic adviser, you may receive academic credit for the internship in your
department and program of study.
How do I evaluate the
At the end of each semester, interns will complete an online
Internship Experience Evaluation.
When will I receive my
Interns will be paid bi-weekly through the Northern Arizona
University payroll system at a rate of $9 per hour.
Can I apply for a summer
Yes. Faculty members propose projects two times per academic
year. Students may apply each session. Students may have no more than two
internships in a full academic year.
I continue an internship with the same faculty member?
each session, only a limited number of faculty requests are selected for funding. Students must
re-apply for an internship. Faculty will use the process described above and may choose to have the same student for no more
than two sessions.
