Obsidian Point
The IDEA Lab at Northern Arizona University uses noninvasive
coating techniques to photograph delicate artifacts. These techniques help to document these rare
objects and to reveal their surface details. This photograph is a close-up of
an obsidian projectile point, among the oldest known human-made objects in
Arizona. Northern
Arizona University Professor of Anthropology Dr. Chris Downum is using this and
other stunning, close-up images on an interactive website called the American
Southwest Virtual Museum. Photo: IDEA Lab
