During the second step of Freshman Fusion in October, continue to learn the benefits of healthy living and discover new workouts to help you stay physically active!  SPLASH - DASH - FIT - DODGE - CLIMB during the Campus Recreation Services PINK Week events October 21-27.  Participate in any event this month and earn a Live it Up! Exercise Band.

Freshman Connections Hall Health and Wellness Week
Sunday            7pm                 You Sexy Thang & Zumba
Get your groove on and your “glove” on!  During this Zumba workout you’ll receive quick tips for a healthy sex life and staying STI free ‘cause you know you’ll be feeling sexy after this Latin infused dance workout perfect for anyone with our without dance experience!

Monday           7pm                 Stress B Gone & All Levels Yoga
Yoga your way to reduced stress while improving your physical and mental balance.  You’ll also leave this class with tips on how to achieve this same type of relaxation every day!  Please bring your own yoga mat or towel!

Tuesday           7pm                 Boozecamp

Get ready to hit it hard in this bootcamp class that will focus on improving your endurance, stamina, strength, power, speed, and coordination.  During this workout you’ll also get some quick tips on how to reduce your risks-and calories- if you choose to drink.

Wednesday     7pm                 Knock It Off & Cardio Kickboxing
This workout will help you box your way to stronger cardiovascular and muscular endurance levels.  You’ll experience weight bearing intervals that will make your body burn and you’ll also learn tips on how to solve conflicts- no boxing required.

Thursday         7pm                 Siesta & Latin Dance

Get some tips on healthy napping then get moving to the beat of latin music and learn the afro-Cuban dance of Salsa, the Dominican love music of Bachata, and the fun flively Dominican style of Merengue.  Siesta anyone?

Friday              7pm     Feed Your Machine & 20-20-20
This class is a true whole body experience challenging you with 20 minutes working out your arms, 20 minutes legs, and 20 minutes of core work!  Exercise your entire body and leave with tips on how to fuel up for optimal health.

7pm                Stressbusters

NAU Stressbusters busts stress by providing free backrubs and are an excellent wellness resource for you!  Stop by anytime between 7-8pm for your free backrub.

Wednesday, October 9

7:30pm            Latino Heritage Month Zumba

Drop it like it's hot as we celebrate Latino Heritage Month!  This class will mix a variety of Latin America’s hottest music and dance styles such as: salsa, merengue, cumbia, reggaeton, samba, and hip hop - you won't feel like you are in a fitness class, you will feel like you are at the club!  It’s a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy-to-follow dance steps perfect for anyone with or without dance experience!!  Come Zumba with us!

From Mission Improvable, Campus Activities' Comedy Act of the Year, comes Shot of Reality. This improvisational theater group will engage the audience in a humorous, interactive look at navigating alcohol issues on campus. Laugh, learn, and help the cast in this birthday celebration for the audience!

Come celebrate Homecoming at the Foam Party!  Be prepared to get "foam-y" with your NAU friends as you dance the night away.  Plan to wear a shirt, shorts and shoes and bring your JacksCard.

11pm               Homecoming Glow Run- CANCELLED

Participate in NAUs first ever Glow Run! This run is less about how fast you run and more about enjoying the glowing course through NAU campus. Not only do you get to participate in the run, but you will receive a free breakfast in the morning. You will not want to miss out on this event!

9am     Outdoor Adventures Sedona Yoga & Meditation

Join the NAU Outdoors staff and our Rec Center Yoga staff as we take a short day trip to the beautiful red rocks of Sedona.  Included in the trip will several yoga sessions, guided meditation and several short day hikes.  Cost $40.00, lunch will also be included.  Register in advance as spots fill quickly.  www.nau.edu/outdoors

In an effort to raise money for the Shadows Foundation (Donations benefit Shadows, a local non-profit providing financial assistance and services for people and families affected by a life-threatening disease), participate in any/all of the Campus Recreation Services sponsored PINK Week of events!        

Monday – Friday        5pm                 6x6 Dodgeball Tournament

Gather your freshman friends for a free entry into the most popular dodgball tourney at NAU!  This is a week long tournament and the format will be dependent upon the number of entries.  Teams are encouraged to wear pink or white uniforms.  Winning teams will receive custom high quality champion shirts, which may also be purchased while supplies last.  There will also be event sponsors and a raffle.  If you can dodge a wrench…

1. An event in which participants experience a specified number of classes within one hour.  Variants include:  Cycle & Bootcamp 6-7pm, Hip Hop & Zumba 7-8pm.  At NAU, this POWER HOUR event is associated with PINK Week in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 

2.  The event rules appear simple; however, experience maximum heart rate levels, booty shaking, and a cardio party atmosphere.  The rate of water consumption elevates participants’ exercise intoxication levels within a short period of time. 

3.  Donate $5 to the Shadows foundation to participate.

Thursday                     5pm                 Climbing Wall Competition

Help raise awareness and support for breast cancer by taking part in the PINK WEEK CLIMBING COMPETITION. Competition stations will include top-rope routes, climbing wall twister, and a bouldering traverse. Points are earned for each move on the wall and bonus points will be awarded to competitors wearing pink or wearing Halloween costumes. No climbing experience is necessary. Register as a Beginner or Advanced Climber at the Campus Recreation Services Front Desk; Donate: $5 per person to the Shadows foundation to participate.

Hosted by the NAU TriJacks Club, participate in this 500 meter swim in the Wall Aquatic Center pool followed by a 5K run around campus.  For more information or register by calling 928-523-4509. $15/Students (includes t-shirt and swim cap).

Participate in any of the Group Exercise classes between 5-9pm and experience Halloween inspired workouts.  Participate in the costume contest while burning some extra calories!  Live it Up with the fitness staff…it will be a spooktacular time!
