2020 Vision

2020 Vision

In 2008, then-Gov. Janet Napolitano set a goal for Arizona to become nationally competitive through top-notch universities that offer high quality degrees, lead a strong research enterprise and deliver a skilled and educated workforce that will benefit everyone in the state. Based on the governor's goals and direction, the Arizona Board of Regents and universities created the 2020 Vision to chart the path the universities will take to achieve those goals and move Arizona's economy forward.

The plan outlines university-specific goals that contribute collectively to increasing the number of baccalaureate degrees earned in the state, doubling annually earned investment in research, strengthening partnerships with the community to meet workforce needs and maximizing existing resources to increase institution productivity.

To meet these goals, Northern Arizona University is investing additional millions of dollars in specialized, modern student success programs. The university also has broadened its reach, making higher education accessible and affordable across Arizona though distance learning programs. NAU's research agenda has been greatly enhanced through public-private partnerships.
