A degree program’s curricular and assessment practices should
be driven by larger goals and directions determined by the degree program. A mission statement guides teaching and
learning priorities in the curriculum, directs faculty to prioritize their
energies towards the program’s important goals, and prioritizes which
assessment questions and data will be most useful for the program’s decision
